Combine visual arts and music, and share the beauty of Chinese-language music!
Visual art, when paired with music, only enhances the story and themes of the songs. Seeing the Music is a project that encourages audiences to engage with and learn more about Asian cultures.
This year, our two headliners are Serrini from Hong Kong and Enno Cheng from Taiwan. Both artists use music to connect with their mother tongue and reach the hearts of audiences through their lyrics. We are looking for artworks inspired by their songs, incorporating imagery from the lyrics or using the Chinese characters themselves. Show us why you love their music!
2024 Seeing the Music will display the works at Ocean Artworks Pavilion on Granville Island. We hope to introduce Vancouver to more Chinese-language music through the medium of visual arts. Jade Music Fest will select two winners: one Serrini-inspired work and one Enno Cheng-inspired work. Winners will receive $300 CAD, and two tickets to JMF: Concert of Convergence.
SUBMISSION DETAILS
- Pick a song by Serrini or Enno Cheng
Jade Music Fest focuses on language equity within the music industry. Serrini’s Cantonese songs and Enno Cheng’s Taiwanese songs are perfect examples of how Chinese-language music can unite listeners from around the world.
- Create Art Design
Create a visual arts design from one of their songs. The design should be 30 x 30 inches at 300 dpi. Please submit your piece(s) to the submission form below. The deadline for submission is midnight PST October 15th, 2024.
- Wait for Good News
Our art team will review all submissions. If your artwork is selected, we will contact you to confirm final details. Jade Music Fest will handle production and exhibition of the project. For any questions, please contact contests@jmfa.ca.
Artworks must be new original work created for the project. No AI art allowed.
Maximum two winners will be selected by Oct 25, 2024: one for Serrini, one for Enno Cheng.
Winners will be contacted by email and announced on social media.
Winners receive $300 CAD for the selected artwork, and a pair of tickets to JMF Concert of Convergence.
