Darling Sparrows

Darling Sparrows is an award-winning Canadian-Taiwanese singer-songwriter living in Vancouver, on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Her songs take listeners on an emotional grieving and transformational journey through the phases of Stillness to Healing to Renewal. Inspired by her late brother, her debut collection was released on March 19, 2024 – a decade after his unexpected and sudden passing.

Darling Sparrows writes songs and lyrics that are honest, warm, and contemporary – influenced by soft rock and folk masters including Jewel, James Taylor, and Yusuf/Cat Stevens. This music strives to present a safe place to honour the creative healing process that art can facilitate. Each song represents deep emotions, messy truths, and creative way-finding paths – with the ultimate message of celebrating life in all its joy and struggle. In 2021, her debut song ‘We Are the Wild Horses’ was written to honour captive animals meant for slaughter – yet saved and released into the California wilderness. The music and video brings attention to their sentient nature, inherent value, and need for protection. Recorded in North Vancouver over the pandemic and filmed live filmed live on location in the Klamath-Siskiyou wilderness, ‘We Are the Wild Horses’ was the winner of the 2022 Equus Film & Arts Fest Award, 2022 Global Music Award, 2023 Vegas Movie Awards (best music video), and 2023 California Music and Film Award (official selection).

She will be presenting songs from her first Darling Sparrows mini album release, as well as select Fusion Folk songs from a longstanding career as a 4x Canadian JUNOS and 5x Canadian Folk Music Award nominee under the moniker, Ginalina.

"Music has long been a means of wayfinding and discovery - who we are, how we feel, how the world works, how we are connected. Similarly, Jade Music Festival is becoming a unique platform for exploration and expression of music industry perspectives, ideas, and artists - through the lens of Asian culture and Chinese language."
