Dr. Holic
In 2023, Dr. Holic burst onto Toronto’s music scene, transitioning from a Hong Kong high school teacher to a hip-hop artist. This change was a bold declaration for his generation to seize control of their futures.
Adopting the alias Dr. Holic, he skillfully combines pop and hip-hop, incorporating elements of his cultural background. His sound has captivated a global audience, with his debut video “Goodbye” gaining over 200,000 YouTube views. His single “RICE!” also flourished, now with over 800,000 streams, and its music video surpassed 200,000 views. Dr. Holic also worked as the producer, assistant director, and writer for the music videos. He added to his musical portfolio with the trap hit duet “CASINO,” which has over 200,000 streams across platforms, and a melodic drill love song titled “Crashing Chase,” also surpassing 100,000 streams.
Pre-debut, his collaboration with Keung To on King Maker, a renowned Hong Kong TV show, was particularly striking, winning widespread praise with their rendition of “Qi Tian Da Sheng” by Hua Chen Yu.
In 2024, Dr. Holic realigned his focus to Chinese hip-hop, notably with his track “全世界最後一次為你下的雪 (The Last Snow For You),” acclaimed in Taiwan and other Mandarin-speaking areas. This song remained on the 嘻哈華語精選 (Mandarin Hip-Hop Hits) chart for 21 weeks and has nearly 100,000 streams across platforms, symbolizing his reconnection with his roots after his time in North America.
Following this, he has released four more songs this year in Mandarin, English, and Cantonese, collaborating with Asian artists. These songs have charted on editorial playlists like “嘻哈華語精選,” “流行音樂榜,” “獨立最前線,” “男聲報到,” “+852 Rising,” “Fresh Finds Taiwan,” and “HYPE+” on Spotify.
