James Tseung
James Tseung is a Hong Kong-born composer and singer-songwriter based in Vancouver. His music blends influences from jazz, soul, R&B, and classical music, with emotive vocals, intricate arrangements, and deeply personal storytelling. Known for his genre-defying approach, James weaves together diverse styles, ranging from introspective ballads to the intricate rhythms of math rock.
In 2022, James released his second album, Vagabond, a conceptual work reflecting the turbulence he has experienced in his homeland and across the world since 2019. The album’s final track, “Afterward ”, features a recording of his original composition played on a 50-foot chime tower at his school, encapsulating the personal and global themes of the album.
James’s recent EP, Kwun Tong Hockey, marks a bold exploration into math rock and Midwest emo, where he blends complex rhythms and expressive guitar work with his unique musical voice.
Whether composing for film, art installations, or creating his own music, James continues to push creative boundaries while maintaining emotional depth and authenticity.
