Jason Qiu

秋咏

Classically trained on the piano since age 4, Vancouver-born Jason Qiu began composing his own songs as a teenager and spent several years performing with local bands. After a choir director told him during an audition that no one would be able to hear his voice, Jason began his journey as a solo artist, one that has also become a personal quest to rediscover his confidence.

Navigating between original songs in Chinese and English, Jason blends his classical roots with contemporary influences with heartfelt performances in an effort to bridge cultural and linguistic boundaries.

溫哥華出生的歌手兼詞曲創作人秋咏(Jason Qiu)的音樂旅程是一次個人靈魂探索的努力。他的歌曲是關於生活經歷的脆弱、隱喻式獨白。

"I would love to connect with others who are able to see semblance in my often lonely journey of finding my identity in my ethnicity, one that's been wrought with detachment and alienation at times but also one that is slowly shifting into a growing sense of pride and appreciation in my own culture."

Jade Music Fest is grateful to be held on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish Nation), and Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation). We acknowledge our privilege to operate on these lands, and commit to work with and be respectful to the Indigenous peoples whose music and culture encourages us to better listen to each other.
