Interdisciplinary Media Artist, Curator, DJ, & Cultural Producer

Nancy Lee 李南屏, a Taiwanese-Canadian interdisciplinary media artist, curator, DJ, and cultural producer. Co-founding Chapel Sound, an electronic music and art collective, and CURRENT, a multidisciplinary initiative supporting women, gender-diverse artists, and racialized artists, Nancy actively champions emerging talent.

They also run a vibrant event and production studio in Vancouver Chinatown, serving as a creative hub for cross-genre performances, workshops, and artist residencies. As a community music consultant, Nancy collaborates with Creative BC and Music BC, providing valuable grant coaching and outreach services to improve funding program accessibility.

Nancy is an advocate for the music community and has initiated two pilot programs in partnership with the City of Vancouver, offering entrepreneurial capacity-building workshops and micro-grants for artists, significantly contributing to the local music scene’s growth.

Their artistic work and performances have been showcased at festivals worldwide, including the Cannes Film Festival, SXSW, MUTEK (Montreal & Japan), Bass Coast Festival, FUSE at Vancouver Art Gallery, Vancouver Pride, Alberta Electronic Music Conference, Vancouver International Jazz Festival, and the International Symposium on Electronic Art (South Korea & South Africa). Their outstanding contributions were acknowledged with a nomination for the YWCA Women of Distinction Award in the Art, Cultural & Design category in 2018.

Nancy is not just an artist but also an XR workshop instructor at the IM4 Media Lab at Emily Carr University and a board director at Love Intersections, a media arts collective representing queer artists of color. As a Sundance Institute New Frontier Alumni, Nancy is actively collaborating with Kiran Bhumber on a groundbreaking speculative sci-fi exhibition called “UNION,” exploring innovative technologies such as 3D scanning, 3D printing, XR, and multi-channel A/V dome theatre performance.

Nancy’s dedication to promoting gender equity in the music industry is underscored by their participation in the Keychange EU Innovator program, spanning across Canada, Belgium, Germany, and Iceland. Their multifaceted contributions continue to shape and elevate the arts and music community.
